    Transportation

DePaul is a major user of the local transit authority’s “U-Pass” program, whereby each undergraduate student is provided a bus & rail pass as part of their tuition and fee package. This pass allows unlimited use of Chicago Transit Authority buses, elevated trains and subways.  Over the past several years DePaul students utilized U-Pass for an average of 1.5 million transit rides per academic year. This is a significant level of public transit use that keeps many cars off the street.

For those who must drive on occasion, DePaul has partnered with the “I-Go” car sharing program which houses three hybrid vehicles on campus for students & staff to lease for anywhere from an hour to a week.  We are currently looking at expanding the I-Go program.

Biking to and around campus has become more of a friendly activity since increasing the number of bike parking spaces to just under 1,000. In addition, DePaul has a “Bike Intern” position in place in the Campus Recreation unit…whose sole purpose is to develop programs geared toward promoting the use of bikes on campus. One of the more recent developments enacted is the placement of rental bikes at campus recreation for those who do not have a bike on campus.

Public Safety now has several hybrid vehicles as part of its overall fleet. More will be considered in the future for both Public Safety and the maintenance operation. Facility Operations also sees to it that all other existing vehicles are properly serviced and maintained to keep them in optimal running condition while remaining as environmentally friendly as possible.
