    Land use & Built Environment

In 2009 DePaul was awarded LEED Gold for its new Chemistry & Environmental Sciences building. Moving forward, DePaul is committed to securing LEED certification on all new construction projects and will continue to be engaged in retro-commissioning activities at existing buildings. Several Loop Campus buildings are currently in the process of completing retro-commissioning audits and project activity that will lead to more efficiencies in building operation that will save energy.  All interior renovation projects in the future will include, as part of their scope, specifications geared toward improving energy and operational efficiencies

A green roof was installed at the DePaul Center building in the Loop, with more green roof retrofits to follow as funding becomes available.

DePaul has revised the materials that it uses in its landscape maintenance operation to new organic products. In addition, replanting around campus will consider utilizing more native vegetation. Indoor cleaning product specifications have also been revised to reduce the use of toxic substances. All bulk products are now "Green" certified.
