Fire Alarm Procedures

Lincoln Park and Loop Campuses

Chicago Fire Prevention policy dictates that upon sounding of the fire alarm all occupants must evacuate, via stairwells only, to the ground level, exterior of the building (follow the exit signs mounted at the ceilings of each floor). Never use elevators for emergency evacuation! This policy is common to all Lincoln Park and Loop Campus buildings, without exception. Other floor occupants and/or Public Safety and Facility Operations personnel will assist disabled occupants in evacuation. The Fire Department and Facility Operations are the only authorities to signal the "all clear" to reenter the building.

Fire Safety Tips:
  • Always evacuate the building upon hearing an alarm.
  • When evacuating, only use stairwells. Never use elevators.
  • Never prop open stairwell or hallway doors.
  • Never store bulk paper goods and files in a hallway or under stairwells.
